First Day of Spring—Time To Freshen Your Home!

The first day of spring is here and we are looking forward to getting some fresh air! Usually the season for spring cleaning and gardening, spring is also an ideal season for exterior painting.

The temperate climate in spring is perfect for painting. And after a windy, wet and cold winter, your home’s exterior siding and trim may need a fresh coat of paint.

Make your home pop with a bright colour painted on the front door, clean and crisp window trim and solid siding with no fading or green stains from mould and mildew.

With a professional paint makeover your home will be as fresh and bright as those spring blossoms!

Signs That You May Need To Re-paint Your Walls

With wear and tear, your walls can start to look old and scruffy. Sometimes we get used to the change over time, and hardly notice how sad our walls have become. Here are four signs that your walls could use a fresh coat of paint:

  1. Scuffs. Scuffs can happen when we bump into a wall with the vacuum cleaner, toys and various other objects. The colour is transferred onto the paint and doesn’t wash off.
  2. Water marks. Sometimes excess moisture in the air from showers and cooking can condense on your walls and leave subtle but stubborn water marks on the paint.
  3. Stains. If you have kids or pets, you probably have some stains on your walls from various substances that don’t wipe off no matter how hard you try.
  4. Dents. Sometimes bumps to the walls cause more damage than a little scuff. Moving furniture and decor can easily result in dents in your walls, which really age the look of your home.

Take a good look at your walls, you may find a few of these signs that you need to re-paint. The good news it that you can get some very high quality and durable paint these days, which decreases wear and tear on your walls and is easily washable.

Benchmark Painting offers professional painting services that will make your walls look brand new.

Wishing You A Merry Christmas!

Today we’re setting aside our paint brushes to celebrate Christmas with friends and family. All of us at Benchmark Painting would like to wish a very Merry Christmas to you and yours!

The Key to a Professional Looking Paint Application

Professional painters always have the right paintbrush for the job, use quality paint and primer, and are very skilled in painting techniques. However, the key to a professional looking paint application is: surface preparation.

Many amateur painters overlook the need to prepare the surface properly before painting. They are eager to get started and see the results quicker, so they do minimal, if any, surface preparation. The result is a newly painted wall full of blemishes like bumps, cracks and holes.

Here is how to prepare a surface for painting like a professional:

  1. Repair drywall cracks with putty and sand down to an even finish.
  2. Fill nail holes and other imperfections with putty and sand flat.
  3. Wipe dust and dirt from walls.

Benchmark Painting always takes the time to prepare surfaces before painting for a professional paint application.

We Remember

Unique Design Features With Custom Moulding Installations

When people think of mouldings in a home, they often think of crown mouldings and baseboards. While those applications are excellent for adding character to your home, moulding can also be used in creative ways to create a unique design feature in your home.

Here are some examples of custom moulding installations:

  1. Elevate the style of a room with a coffered ceiling.
  2. Transform a wall with the look of board and batten.
  3. Create a feature wall with a custom geometric wainscotting design.

The possibilities are nearly limitless, so bring your imaginative ideas to Benchmark Painting and we’ll make your dream design a reality.

How To Decide On a Paint Colour for Your Space

You know you want to repaint your living space, but you’re not sure what colour would look the best and work for the long term. Our 5 steps below explain how to decide on a paint colour for your space.

To begin, start with a broad decision and narrow down from there. If you would like to visualize your room in a variety of colours before making any decisions, try this online room colour visualizer by Sherwin Williams.

  1. Decide if you would like a light colour or a dark colour. Light colours expand space and brighten a room while dark colours create a cozy, intimate feeling.
  2. Decide if you would like a warm colour, a cool colour, or a neutral colour. This is often a matter of personal colour preference, but could also depend on how you are using the space and how you want the space to feel.
  3. Narrow your choice on the colour wheel from either the warm colours or the cool colours. Search for a colour theory chart if you would to choose a colour based on its mood associations.
  4. Visit your paint store to pick up some paint chips in various shades of your chosen colour. Bring the paint chips to your space and compare them in that lighting.
  5. Once you have your favourite shades narrowed down to two or three, the best way to find the right one is to purchase sample paint in those shades and paint generous sample applications to your wall, side by side for accurate light comparison. That way you can see how the paint colour looks on your wall, in your lighting.

Deciding on your paint colour can be the hardest part of painting your space. Once you have your paint colour chosen, call us at Benchmark Painting for a no-obligation written quote of our professional painting service—604.803.5041

Another happy client for Benchmark’s recommended interior decorator Decorata Design

At Benchmark Painting we strive for happy clients, and that’s why we only work with and recommend the best in our industry. We recently recommended interior decorator Sue Womersley of Decorata Design to our client, who then called us to say how happy she is with Sue’s work, because she took the stress out of the renovation. A stress-free renovation? That’s when you know you’re working with the best.
